Another Crazy Week

What another crazy week it has been in Hercules Class! Busy busy! We started looking at newspaper reports this week, the structure, format, formality and language features. We have been focusing carefully on which person to use and when (first, second and third). Eventually the children will be writing their own newspaper reports, in third person, but will all shift it to first person when using a quotation. So for example: Third Person First Person When asked about the crime the police officer replied "I will not rest until we find out who did this" This is a tricky skill and so maybe this is something that children could work on at home if you have a spare 10 minutes.  It is our final week on multiplication and division, the children have been working so hard this week and have been pushing their learning to the limit, reasoning and problem solving. This Week In Hercules Class

It's been a very busy week here in Hercules Class, we have all settled quickly after the slightly longer Christmas break (wasn't that lovely?). We have started our new topic of Ancient Egypt and this week looked at what BC meant and where it would fit on a time line. I think the children are now starting to comprehend just how long ago this era was.  We looked at conjunctions to join simple sentences and applied this to a comparative piece of writing, comparing clothes that we wear today with the clothes that were worn in 3500BC - 51BC. They were given time to research, plan and then write and they all upped theie game which was amazing to see. Normally the first bright write after a break is the hardest but they did so well. Two writers, however, that particularly stood out for me and Mrs Roach were two boys: Doug and Austin.  They both worked really hard on the presentation of their work, the content was amazing and they thought very carefully about the vocabulary that t...
