This Week In Hercules Class

It's been a very busy week here in Hercules Class, we have all settled quickly after the slightly longer Christmas break (wasn't that lovely?). We have started our new topic of Ancient Egypt and this week looked at what BC meant and where it would fit on a time line. I think the children are now starting to comprehend just how long ago this era was.

We looked at conjunctions to join simple sentences and applied this to a comparative piece of writing, comparing clothes that we wear today with the clothes that were worn in 3500BC - 51BC. They were given time to research, plan and then write and they all upped theie game which was amazing to see. Normally the first bright write after a break is the hardest but they did so well. Two writers, however, that particularly stood out for me and Mrs Roach were two boys: Doug and Austin.

They both worked really hard on the presentation of their work, the content was amazing and they thought very carefully about the vocabulary that they used (Austin even managed the word 'civilization).

In maths we have been looking at multiplying by 3, 8 and 4. Yesterday we focused on arrays and, again, they all worked really hard on this however, Isabelle stood out as her reasoning was incredible, using the words: because, therefore and equal.

I am trying to upload images of their work, although, at the moment I am unable to upload images and I do not know why. I will try again at the beginning of next week. I promise if I can find a way to get this computer to read the images I will upload them. Sorry.

Let's have another terrific week of learning next week, but before then everyone have a lovely, relaxing weekend.

Remember their Egyptian research is due back on Wednesday :)
