This Week In Hercules Class

We have been continuing our learning about the Earth. We wrote about the Northern and Southern Hemisphere as well as the equator and gave examples of countries (e.g. in the Northern Hemisphere you would find USA, Canada and Croatia). This week we watched the film of Journey to the Centre of the Earth and have started to think about the similarities and differences between the book and the film. In maths we have started a new topic: right angles. Right angles is really, really difficult - Doug Right angles are hard and easy at the same time - Soph B I liked doing our world cup chart because it combines football and responsibility and we have to remember to write our scores on the board - Will I liked doing right angles because sometimes it's trickier than what we normally do - Isablle I like maths because it gets harder every day - Stan I like the world cup because sometimes we have checked the scores during school time - Embry I like the earth topic because it is getti...

This Week In Hercules

We've had a nice calm week back since our half term break. We have all picked a country for the World Cup who we will follow through the tournament. We have done some revision in English this week and next week will compare Axel and Professor Liedenbrock from our class book Journey to the Centre of the Earth.  We have carried on with time this week in maths and today we looked at Roman Numerals. Next week, we will have to try and tell the time with clocks that have Roman Numerals on them. In maths, I managed to get to the end of 'do it' and I finished 'reason it' too - Stanley. I loved maths this week, because it kept getting harder but I still got to challenge each time - Will. I loved it when we were picking our countries out of the pot for the World Cup - Ana I liked maths because it made me think - May I liked maths because I wanted to go as far as I could to challenge myself - I sabelle I loved doing the World Cup draw because I got Spain and they...

This Week In Hercules

This week Year 3 have been continuing our paper mache models of the Earth. We have also been learning about the layers of the Earth and next week we will be putting it altogether. This week we painted them so they looked like the Earth's surface. Today we are finishing fractions and did a (sort of) test. We also spent one more lesson on equivalent fractions, so hopefully we can move on. Next week, we will be moving on to our new topic in maths, time. In PE we have been working as a team, making our own games and hopefully in a few weeks time will be teaching the year 2's how to play our game. At first I liked the paper mache but in the end it was exhausting - Doug I liked paining the paper mache models - Casimira I enjoyed making and paining our paper mache Earths - Ana I liked art and PE because it was fun making games and painting - Erin I liked covering our balloons with newspaper and kitchen roll - Mia I liked doing my paper mache because it took a long time ...

First Week Back

We've had a hot first week back. Some of us have found it hard to get back into the swing of things after a long Easter break (including Mr Thomas and Mrs Roach). In English we developed a character and setting by drawing them both. We then drew a story board to help structure our stories. Then we wrote our very own creative stories about anything we wanted. There were lots of different adventures. In maths we continued to look at fractions, and started to look at how to find fractions of amounts: Example (Hercules class want to show you) Two thirds of nine Nine divided by three equals three - divide the whole number by the denominator Three times two equals six - we have multiplied the answer by the numerator Two thirds of 9 equals six. We have been making our own games in PE with Mrs Flower and we will be hopefully teaching Year 2's how to play them. In Science we looked at different types of rocks and discussing their properties. Some of the rocks were: marb...

This week in Hercules

This week we created a story board where we designed our stories using only pictures. The next day we wrote our stories from beginning to end. The stories were about travelling back to Ancient Egypt. We learned that the most important paragraphs are the setting and the character description because it grabs the readers eyes and makes them want to read the whole thing.  Mr Thomas was AMAZED by the stories that he read! We have carried on looking at fractions this week and started to look at equivalent decimals. We have completed lots of practice papers this week as it has been assessment week. We have done: Three Reading Papers (Fiction, Non-Fiction and Poetry) Three Maths Papers (Times tables, Arithmetic and Reasoning) An extended write  Next week we have a spelling test where the children will look at the 3/4 spelling list! I was really proud of how well I did on the reading paper - Flo I loved doing the maths papers because when we did the times tables I...

What's happened this week?

This blog was written by all of us in Hercules! In English this week we have created our own characters for our stories which we will be writing next week. We have sketched them and described their personality and their appearance. Also, we have looked at adjectives that add meaning. e.g.  The wet water is not meaningful. "It is not meaningful because you would expect water to be wet" - Erin In Maths we have been learning about fractions. We have been adding fractions with the same denominator, as well as building our own fraction walls and ordering them from smallest to biggest too. We have also played our recorders to Year 4 and in PE we are learning new styles of dance. As well as this we have been continuing with our topic on Ancient Egypt. I loved dance because it was fun - Ana I loved playing recorders to Year 4 because it was exciting - Sophie C I liked doing English this week because we got to describe personalities - Louis I liked doing maths this week b...

This Week In Hercules Class

We have written the blog this week as a class.  It's been another spectacular week in Hercules Class. We have been looking at bar graphs in maths. We collected data using tally charts, making up our own closed questions. We then drew our own bar graphs and have even vocabulary like axis. and mini plays about travelling back in time to Ancient Egypt, ready to write our newspaper reports next week. We have even been doing Ancient Egyptian dances in PE. Something else we have been doing is learning different tunes in recorders.  "It has been a bit of a weird week back because it is the first one back" - Doug.  "I enjoyed maths this week because we have been drawing our own bar graphs" - Isabelle "We have all been a bit tired on this first week back" - Louis "I enjoyed maths this week because it has challenged me" - Anthony "Hopefully I will enjoy the new maths topic next week when we start length and perimeter" - Embry ...
