This Week In Hercules


We've had a nice calm week back since our half term break. We have all picked a country for the World Cup who we will follow through the tournament.

We have done some revision in English this week and next week will compare Axel and Professor Liedenbrock from our class book Journey to the Centre of the Earth. 

 We have carried on with time this week in maths and today we looked at Roman Numerals. Next week, we will have to try and tell the time with clocks that have Roman Numerals on them.

In maths, I managed to get to the end of 'do it' and I finished 'reason it' too - Stanley.
I loved maths this week, because it kept getting harder but I still got to challenge each time - Will.
I loved it when we were picking our countries out of the pot for the World Cup - Ana
I liked maths because it made me think - May
I liked maths because I wanted to go as far as I could to challenge myself - Isabelle
I loved doing the World Cup draw because I got Spain and they're a really good team - Doug
I loved maths this week because I challenged myself - Anthony
I liked all the fun things we did but the rest of the stuff was better because it was more challenging - Embry.
I loved maths because I enjoyed Roman Numerals - Henry
I enjoyed doing our flags for the World Cup as well as maths - Erin.
I liked colouring our flags because it was lots of fun - Jersey.
I really enjoyed doing the World Cup draw because I got Tunisia and I love Tunisia. - Louis
I am really annoyed that I got Panama - Mr Thomas
I can't wait for the World Cup to be over - Mrs Roach.

This week in Hercules

This week we created a story board where we designed our stories using only pictures. The next day we wrote our stories from beginning to end. The stories were about travelling back to Ancient Egypt. We learned that the most important paragraphs are the setting and the character description because it grabs the readers eyes and makes them want to read the whole thing.  Mr Thomas was AMAZED by the stories that he read! We have carried on looking at fractions this week and started to look at equivalent decimals. We have completed lots of practice papers this week as it has been assessment week. What's happened this week?

This blog was written by all of us in Hercules! In English this week we have created our own characters for our stories which we will be writing next week. We have sketched them and described their personality and their appearance. Also, we have looked at adjectives that add meaning. e.g.  The wet water is not meaningful. "It is not meaningful because you would expect water to be wet" - Erin In Maths we have been learning about fractions. We have been adding fractions with the same denominator, as well as building our own fraction walls and ordering them from smallest to biggest too. We have also played our recorders to Year 4 and in PE we are learning new styles of dance. As well as this we have been continuing with our topic on Ancient Egypt.
