Spellings and Homework (Due: 08/11/17)


Just a reminder that the children's homework this week is to do something that will allow them to write a set of instructions in class. 

 This can be anything like:

  • baking a cake
  • helping cook a meal
  • brushing their teeth
  • scoring a goald
Children do not have to write the instructions in their homework book but can if they would like to. It would be nice to have a picture of them carrying out this activity stuck in their homework books.

This Week In Hercules

We've had a nice calm week back since our half term break. We have all picked a country for the World Cup who we will follow through the tournament. We have done some revision in English this week and next week will compare Axel and Professor Liedenbrock from our class book Journey to the Centre of the Earth.  We have carried on with time this week in maths and today we looked at Roman Numerals. This week in Hercules

This week we created a story board where we designed our stories using only pictures. The next day we wrote our stories from beginning to end. The stories were about travelling back to Ancient Egypt. We learned that the most important paragraphs are the setting and the character description because it grabs the readers eyes and makes them want to read the whole thing.  Mr Thomas was AMAZED by the stories that he read! We have carried on looking at fractions this week and started to look at equivalent decimals. We have completed lots of practice papers this week as it has been assessment week. We have done: Three Reading Papers (Fiction, Non-Fiction and Poetry) Three Maths Papers (Times tables, Arithmetic and Reasoning) An extended write  Next week we have a spelling test where the children will look at the 3/4 spelling list! This Week In Hercules Class

We have been continuing our learning about the Earth. We wrote about the Northern and Southern Hemisphere as well as the equator and gave examples of countries (e.g. in the Northern Hemisphere you would find USA, Canada and Croatia). This week we watched the film of Journey to the Centre of the Earth and have started to think about the similarities and differences between the book and the film. In maths we have started a new topic: right angles. Right angles is really, really difficult - Doug Right angles are hard and easy at the same time - Soph B I liked doing our world cup chart because it combines football and responsibility and we have to remember to write our scores on the board - Will I liked doing right angles because sometimes it's trickier than what we normally do - Isablle I like maths because it gets harder every day - Stan I like the world cup because sometimes we have checked the scores during school time - Embry I like the earth topic because it is getti...
