This Week In Hercules Class


We have written the blog this week as a class. 

 It's been another spectacular week in Hercules Class. We have been looking at bar graphs in maths. We collected data using tally charts, making up our own closed questions. We then drew our own bar graphs and have even vocabulary like axis. and mini plays about travelling back in time to Ancient Egypt, ready to write our newspaper reports next week. We have even been doing Ancient Egyptian dances in PE. Something else we have been doing is learning different tunes in recorders.

"I enjoyed maths because we got to make up our own questions to ask other people" - Harvey
"I enjoyed recorders because we learned a new tune" - Flo
"Maths is fun" - Jersey
"I am enjoying learning about Ancient Egypt because it is fascinating" - Nathan
"I enjoyed the role play because I got to work with my best friends" - Will

 We are all looking forward to World Book Day next week and dressing up Thursday and Friday and writing our newspaper reports too. We are excited to get stuck into length and perimeter as well as lots of book based activities. 

 I hope you've enjoyed our first blog that we have written together. We'd like to finish with a joke...

This Week In Hercules

We've had a nice calm week back since our half term break. We have all picked a country for the World Cup who we will follow through the tournament. We have done some revision in English this week and next week will compare Axel and Professor Liedenbrock from our class book Journey to the Centre of the Earth.  We have carried on with time this week in maths and today we looked at Roman Numerals. Next week, we will have to try and tell the time with clocks that have Roman Numerals on them. In maths, I managed to get to the end of 'do it' and I finished 'reason it' too - Stanley. This week in Hercules

This week we created a story board where we designed our stories using only pictures. The next day we wrote our stories from beginning to end. The stories were about travelling back to Ancient Egypt. We learned that the most important paragraphs are the setting and the character description because it grabs the readers eyes and makes them want to read the whole thing.  Mr Thomas was AMAZED by the stories that he read! We have carried on looking at fractions this week and started to look at equivalent decimals. We have completed lots of practice papers this week as it has been assessment week. We have done: Three Reading Papers (Fiction, Non-Fiction and Poetry) Three Maths Papers (Times tables, Arithmetic and Reasoning) An extended write  Next week we have a spelling test where the children will look at the 3/4 spelling list! What's happened this week?

This blog was written by all of us in Hercules! In English this week we have created our own characters for our stories which we will be writing next week. We have sketched them and described their personality and their appearance. Also, we have looked at adjectives that add meaning. e.g.  The wet water is not meaningful. "It is not meaningful because you would expect water to be wet" - Erin In Maths we have been learning about fractions. We have been adding fractions with the same denominator, as well as building our own fraction walls and ordering them from smallest to biggest too. We have also played our recorders to Year 4 and in PE we are learning new styles of dance. As well as this we have been continuing with our topic on Ancient Egypt.
