This Week In Hercules


This week Year 3 have been continuing our paper mache models of the Earth. We have also been learning about the layers of the Earth and next week we will be putting it altogether. This week we painted them so they looked like the Earth's surface.

Today we are finishing fractions and did a (sort of) test. We also spent one more lesson on equivalent fractions, so hopefully we can move on.

Next week, we will be moving on to our new topic in maths, time.

In PE we have been working as a team, making our own games and hopefully in a few weeks time will be teaching the year 2's how to play our game.

At first I liked the paper mache but in the end it was exhausting - Doug

I liked art and PE because it was fun making games and painting - Erin
I liked covering our balloons with newspaper and kitchen roll - Mia

I enjoyed the paper mache because it was fun - Jersey
I loved the model making especially because we did't do anything in our books - Martha
I didn't like doing the paper mache because it took up too much time - Sophie
I am still trying to get paint out of my clothes and hair, not even joking - Mrs Roach
I will certainly never ever ever ever forget this week - Mr Thomas

We've had a nice calm week back since our half term break. We have all picked a country for the World Cup who we will follow through the tournament. We have done some revision in English this week and next week will compare Axel and Professor Liedenbrock from our class book Journey to the Centre of the Earth.  We have carried on with time this week in maths and today we looked at Roman Numerals. This week in Hercules

This week we created a story board where we designed our stories using only pictures. The next day we wrote our stories from beginning to end. The stories were about travelling back to Ancient Egypt. We learned that the most important paragraphs are the setting and the character description because it grabs the readers eyes and makes them want to read the whole thing.  Mr Thomas was AMAZED by the stories that he read! We have carried on looking at fractions this week and started to look at equivalent decimals. We have completed lots of practice papers this week as it has been assessment week. We have done: Three Reading Papers (Fiction, Non-Fiction and Poetry) Three Maths Papers (Times tables, Arithmetic and Reasoning) An extended write  Next week we have a spelling test where the children will look at the 3/4 spelling list! What's happened this week?

This blog was written by all of us in Hercules! In English this week we have created our own characters for our stories which we will be writing next week. We have sketched them and described their personality and their appearance. Also, we have looked at adjectives that add meaning. e.g.  The wet water is not meaningful. "It is not meaningful because you would expect water to be wet" - Erin In Maths we have been learning about fractions. We have been adding fractions with the same denominator, as well as building our own fraction walls and ordering them from smallest to biggest too. We have also played our recorders to Year 4 and in PE we are learning new styles of dance. As well as this we have been continuing with our topic on Ancient Egypt.
